Niagara Classic Critical Criterium
Bdot, myself and my mother ventured off to Welland to watch the final of the Niagara Classic today. Early. I don’t recall ever reading 7 AM on a clock on Sunday. It was raining and my sister mentioned the course would be dangerous. It certainly was. I witnessed no less than three crashes. It was horrible to see and totally creeped me out… after all my sister was in the race. I certainly gained a lot of respect for the cyclists today. They fly by at an amazing speeds, wearing very little protection except for a helmet. It became hard to watch for me after witnessing the first crash… the poor woman rolling around on the pavement bleeding, moaning… it turned my stomach. The race went on and the team my sister is on was involved in, what looked like, a fairly serious collision…. since they share the same uniform for a minute I thought it was my sister. The Criterium (the cyclists call the ‘crit’) had a very different feel to it. Much more intense, I was far more anxious watching the crit than the road race yesterday. I was very glad when it was over and all the riders, and of course, my sister, were still with us. I was surprised at how emotional it made me. I’ll post a pic a little later…
Update: never did post a pic. π
